Campus Talk

Mr S. Vincent (Co-founder and Lead Editor, India Together) shall be speaking on Media, Journalism and Development at IIT Bombay on 12th April. Talk is being organised by RSF (which I think is Research Scholar Foundation) and the abstract of the talk is as follows:

..it is widely felt that ‘reforms and development plans’ in our democracy without an active and decisive role for citizens themselves will cause more harm than good. In this context, the news media is often seen as a vehicle to catalyse citizen participation in public affairs, and indeed, development itself.

This will talk evalutate those premises, point out what is missing in the media today and argue that proportionate coverage of our society may be the most powerful, moral and catalytic opportunity for media in India.

India Together appears to be a commendable initiative. (Disclaimer: I got to know about it only this morning through an email)
